I assume that many of us readers of this weekly devotional write up were raised by our parents on the word of God and attending Church in our childhood while growing up. It was a way of raising and guiding us on the principles of truth and morality, training in good life, getting along with one another, structured lifestyle, preparing for life, self discipline and control, love of God and fellow human beings, hard work, developing our sense of value and friendship, etc. There is a song that we probably remember as a flashback that goes like,
“Read your Bible, pray every day if you want to grow” and others like that.
Today a casual reflection tells us that we live in a world of chaos and disorder, lies and falsehood, selfishness and unkindness, me, myself and mine, power mongering, discrimination and racism, love of money, and such challenging difficult issues of life. Right now, I am reminded of a Bible text in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 that predicts our current state of life as humanity as “Difficult Times will come” thus:
“But realize this, that in the last days difficult times come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; avoid such men as these”.
It seems to me that the prophecy of over 2,000 years ago is becoming a reality in our day and time worldwide beginning from America, Nigeria, Europe, etc. The state of affairs seems scary and hopeless.
This is why we all are being encouraged to keep on the tradition of reading the word of God and praying every day, commiting our life individually and as a family, as well as our community and the world to God Christ who is able to guide us aright, protect us from all evils and continue to live a Christ centered life of integrity, love, joy and peace to promote mutual coexistence and community development. In this age of social media and AI, it will do us well to know the right way and limit of our human inventions.
Today, we are all encouraged to keep meditating on the word of God that stands forever and order our lives accordingly. Let us adhere to the Scriptures at Proverbs 3:5-6,
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight”.
It is not enough to keep reading and meditating on the word of God, but acting on it as way of life for our best interest. We must intentionally invite Jesus Christ to be the Savior and Lord of our life. He is the One who died for our sins through His resurrection. That’s how we receive the power of the Holy Spirit after confession and repentance of our sin. The Holy Spirit henceforth will be God Christ person in our life as Comforter, Teacher, Helper, the One who convicts us when we sin and redirects us to truth and righteousness. He is our Advocate who helps us when short of words to express our hearts in prayer to God. If not yet, we need to invite Jesus into our life.
Life said few weeks ago, that’s the best and most important decision of life for anyone of us to make.
May God Himself grant us the spirit of humility to order our life appropriately under the lordship of Jesus Christ day by day. That’s the way to eternal life.
