John 3:16-17 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him”.
The Scripture quoted above is the heart beat of the Christian faith rooted in God’s powerful unconditional love for sinful humanity. God was the One seeking to find us and save us through Jesus Christ, His Son.This is unlike other World religions where man is the one making desperate efforts to find and know God. Here, the unseen God is the One initiating and seeking to reach out to humanity with the heart of love to find us and relate to us in our best interest.
The word love is a powerful one that we all can relate to as very welcoming. We all positively like to hear it and welcome it as a beautiful gesture to experience. We like to be loved and we like to love emotionally, mentally and psychologically. It cheers us up relationally and also temperamentally. It makes our day and helps us to be productive, being our best and doing our best for the object of love. The concept of love is a beautiful thing we all love to experience, irrespective of who we are!
In fact, the Bible expressly states that God is the epitome of love as per I John 4:7. He is a relational God that we can experience and communicate with as He communicates with us reaching out to us, maybe in our worst sinful situation to redeem us back to Himself through faith in Jesus Christ.
In other words, the purpose of God’s love for us is to help us deal with the only one thing that separates us from Him, which is the problem of sin. And that’s why Jesus was sent to physically show us who and what God is like; He lived a perfect sinless life and died for our sin, but resurrected the third day to become our living Savior. Thereby, we become a new creature and changed person with the Holy Spirit of God inside us as our Comforter, Enabler and Helper to living the righteousness of our God Christ.
There is one other great value we experience by embracing the love of God in our lives . For our practical daily living in relationships, the Bible defines love for us as follows:
“Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant; does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things. Love never fails” (I Corinthians 13:4-8a). Obviously to live this kind of love ideal, we have to keep depending on God Christ through His Holy Spirit inside our soul. That’s loving humanity as God Himself has loved us. It’s indeed a uniqueness of the Christian faith unlike any other religious persuasion. God’s kind of love comes through authentic transformation by Christ Jesus.
Do you have this kind of unique love and are you expressing it in your relationships with fellow human beings? It is God’s greatest treasure for you and me through Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord.
In case you are yet to experience this kind of love, you are encouraged to open your heart and invite Jesus in because He is One who lived a perfect life, died for our sin so we can be redeemed back to God. It’s only in His strength that we can live it out for God’s glory. We all daily need to pray God’s grace and strength to demonstrate such an ideal unique love that the world desperately needs.
